tiny GReader 2.0 the completely rewritten version is comming soon!

The internal BETA-Phase which was given out to beta testers is near completion and responses have been great. The new version brings big improvements in regadrs of securty, stability, performance and an even more fluid user interface experience.

Whatch out to be notified for the release of tiny GReader 2.0!

tinyGReader+ 2.0

There is a lot going on currently with the new tinyGReader 2.0 version. The major version jump from 1.7 to 2.0 is not only by chance.

The whole underlying architecture of almost everything will be rewritten.

Authentication

event though tinyGReader tried to be as secure as possible and never transfer any information via http but relying on ssl encryption in any aspect, the old authentication method ClientLogin is still a security issue as your username and password is stored locally on the device. It is stored in a hidden and encrypted area but still on your phone.

In 2.0 the authentication scheme is changed to OAuth (resp. the googel OAuth2 authentication scheme) which increases not only login performance but security as well. From now on no passwords are stored or transfered on your phone. Still tinyGReader is using only ssl encryption when talking to the google servers.

Datatransfer

tinyGreader used to fetch data from the server in the XML format and parsed each single bit of information out of the XML stream. This is good for failure and error checks but bad for the performance when updating your feeds.

In 2.0 the communication protocoll is changed form XML to JSON which enables the new version to let the underlying .NET framework to do the parsing job. This is a huge speed improvement when downloading new feeds!

UI Virtualization

not only is the new userinterface more slick and easy to use - the lsitboxes showing your feeds also have more intuitive features like scrolling to the top of a list automatically checks the server for new items. Scrolling to the bottom will automatically download older items. The same happens, when you read your feeds. Like in the old version you can swipe left and right for the previous/next feed entry. Reaching the last entry automatically will load more items data from the server. This enables you to virtually continously read through a feed or your newest items.

we are always open for ideas and suggestions to make tinyGReader not only the fastest and best Google Reader client for Windows Phone but also to one you like!

Upcoming changes to Google Reader

Dear tiny GReader users and friends of Google Reader,

Google announced some major changes in their API for accessing reader feeds. Mainly all social features like "like", "share", "friends" and their feeds (my shared items, my liked items, my stared items) will go away and there won't be a replacement.

Google will incoorperate the +1 Button to feed entries but you won't be able to follow the liked or stared items of your friends anymore.

This will also bring changes to the functionality of tiny GReader and it is currently not clear, which way tiny GReader will go - but the product will be continued and improved and maybe there will be replacements for the missing functionality of the future Google Reader API. Stay tuned and don't stop showing your loyality to Google Reader which is still the most impressive and usefull app, Google ever released!

The new version was certified and posted to the market place. A major bug was fixed which caused to crash the application on several devices.

New features in 1.7 are the ability to search for feeds and directly subscribe to them! You even can search for feeds, browse their contents without subscribing and even share feed posts from non-subscribed feeds!

There was a rather serious bug in version 1.6 of tiny GReader which made the application crash as soon as a post was clicked. The root cause is not identified by now. We know, it didn't happen on Mango devices at all but only on some Nodo / Pre-Nodo devices. At least we where able to find a device where we could reproduce the issue.

The corrective version 1.7 was posted to the Marketplace and will be available within the next days.

We want to apologize again for the inconvenience!

As a side note: the new version 1.7 also has some nice new features like being able to search for feeds via the Google Reader API and subscribe to them. Due to the short notice of the serious bug, the planned features to edit subscriptions and pin feeds to start has been postponed to the next version.

tiny GReader upcomming v1.5

As version 1.4 was successfully published to the Marketplace the new version 1.5 is already in development. 1.5 will introduce a new offline feature for edit requests.

Edit requests are callbacks to the google reader server to mark your items as read or starred or liked and requests to add your comments etc.

Until and including the current release, if your network connection dropped (e.g. in the underground) these requests just failed and where ignored. That is rather annoying. In evrsion 1.5 these requests are cached in an internal database and when your connection comes back online and you are authenticated everything you did is synchronized with the google reader service.

Another outstanding new feature is the reading ov very (really very) big posts. Most rss entries (posts) are rather short. But if you encounter some really big once, it might happen, that a certain part of the post is just no more visible. A quick workaround was to view the online version by tabbing the title and open the embedded webbrowser - but in v1.5 this should no more happen due to improved parsing algorithms.

There are some minor performance improvements as well as in every version plus some bugfixes.

Stay tuned - 1.5 is not far away!

Remove as much items in a cluster ass possible, but minimum 5. Each time, you move an item, 3 new items will appear. Try to be fast!

Items are moved - litteraly! That means, the the path from the current position to the new position must be free. If you moved an item and couldn't remove a cluster of 5 (or 7) items, atleast 3 new items will be added to the board. Attention! Every 30 Seconds more items will be added!

If you where able to remove a cluster of items, no new items will be added as long as you are not able to remove iitems with a move. This can give you some time.

You also recognize, where new items will appear the next time. Just move your current item on this position, and one of the new items will be blocked.

Try to fill as much as possible fields against the computer.

You play against the computer and try to fill as much as possible fields in a grid by connecting the lines.

4 lines connected are closing an field. The last one - you or the computer - who closes the grid will get the points.

After each closed field, you have the change to make another stroke. If you on't close a filed by setting a stroke, it's the computers turn.

The unregistered versions stops every 90 seconds.
